Crochet stuff animal owl

What is better than a handmade gift for a baby girl’s one years old birthday present. It was a quick project but super cute. Helped me used up some scrap yarn too.

Jacket for my whippet

Wally jacket 1 Wally jacket 2

Because my dog has got a really long body, it’s impossible to get doggie coat from pet shop. I’m glad I know how to sew. Look at his new jacket. The tiger stripe pattern suites him so well as he is naturally brindle in color. It turned out better than I thought. 🙂

Love of totoro continue

image

image

I made this tiny totoro stuff animal with instructions from youtube. Loves it, but surprised by how much time it takes to make all the parts and attach it to the body. I’m not sure if I have enough will power to make another one in the future.

Alternative to carving pumpkin: mandarin orange

image

I have a thing about not wasting food. Carving pumpkin and place for a couple of days guarantee creating more garbage. (Or, who will want to eat it?) Last night, I saw a post from a fellow blogger that has a perfect solution. Why not try drawing faces to mandarin oranges. After halloween, you can still eat the meat of the fruit.

Unbelievable Paper Toy Transformer

I came across this very interesting paper crafty project that requires very little material and time to make. The product you get is pretty amazing. Great to do with the little ones.

Old book pages wreath

image

This wreath cost me $2 in total. I made it for christmas last year. Still being hung on my living room wall since it doesn’t scream christmas only.

Here’s what you need:
1. Find a book that you don’t care for. Otherwise, try thrift store or local library old book.
2. Find some cardboard to be used as the base.
3. Have a stapler, tape, and glue gun on hand?
4. Leftover christmas ornaments you don’t really need? Or visit a dollarstore to get something shiny. That’s where I spent $1.50. The rest of my budget was the glue gun stick.

That’s it.
Oh, and full instruction in video format on you tube. So fortunate to have technology these days.

Totoro wedding gift

image

I made a grey totoro and his little friend for my brother’s wedding coming up. He is a fan of totoro and has got lots of home accessories already this totoro addition will be perfect for his home

I used felt as the material. I under estimate the effort required to cut little bits and pieces. The most time consuming task is hand sew all the details. I wish it us easiler. The white little guy was way more simple.

Handmade gift better than store bought gift?

image

How much is a yarn hat in Walmart? Do people appreciate handmade gifts or they rather have one bought at a store?

I made my best friend and her 9 months old daughter a matching set of winter hat. Mom’s hat is a simple hat with a accent color trim. Baby’s hat is the same but with a flower on the side. When baby gets to 2-3 of age, she can wear the one with bear ears.

My friend’s response was very touching. She said no one ever makes her things like this. A handmade gift to her was very valuable. The thoughts of me thinking about her really touches her heart. The saying ” it’s the thought that counts” really is true.

Time to look for a new origami. This is a chick that also is a box. You can put candy or other objects in the pouch on his back. Super cute.

How I learn crochet: my first achievement

image

About 2 years ago, I wanted to take up crochet, producing my one of a kind item. I decided to look up a project on youtube. Thanks to Claire from user bobwilson123 that introduced me to a whole world of crochet fun. My first owl hat was not perfect, but ended up in my friend’s closet after she begged me for it for a long time. I also made one for my sister and my mother as they all think it’s so cool looking. Based on the same concept, I made a penguin and a frog version as Christmas present. I’m so proud of myself to take on something new.

Funny thing is I don’t even own an owl hat for myself. I was onto other crochet project shortly after to expand my horizon.
